The Keep It Fresh Award!

Ever wonder why we call our blog Sublime Reads? Wonder no more!

Hey everyone, we’re here with an original book award tag called the Keep It Fresh Book Blog Award! We decided to make this as a sort of last burst of summer activity but we wanted to acknowledge book bloggers who keep things fresh all year round, all who deserve more recognition. This is definitely a fun and lighthearted award that we hope you will enjoy answering as well as receiving! So if you’re reading this yourself and have not been tagged by us but would like to participate, consider yourself nominated!

 Rules:

• Post the rules before starting and link back to this post as a reference for other bloggers.
• Part A: Answer each of the fruit questions (each fruit corresponds to a book!) & add pictures plus why you thought that particular book deserves that particular fruit if possible.
• Part B: Choose your favourite fruit (even if it is one of the fruits in part A). Come up with a question that we didn’t ask and answer it.
• Part C: Create your own smoothie from the fruits in Part A (imagine a Lemon-Tomato-Apple smoothie ~ yuck), and find a book that would correlate to your smoothie!
• Nominate as many and anyone that you think are deserving of this award but it would be nice if you nominated a minimum of 5!
• Notify your nominees of the nomination (nom nom nom ~ :D)
• The most important rules? HAVE FUN and of course, KEEP IT FRESH! 🙂

Part A: Fruit Questions

1. Strawberries: Name the sweetest book you’ve read. (e.g. sweet in terms of the characters or if the story takes place in a sweet world… etc.)
2. Coconut: What is a book that you would bring on vacation with you to a tropical destination? (Or if you’re just relaxing at the beach…)
3. Pineapple: What is a book that you didn’t think you would like by judging its cover/summary/the first few pages but started to grow on you?
4. Orange: What’s the juiciest book you’ve read? (e.g. A book with tons of action, romance… etc.)
5. Watermelon: A watery book (e.g. There wasn’t tons of substance to the book/the details were just too watery…etc. Don’t get us wrong though, we love watermelons!)
6. Dragonfruit: What’s the most unique book you’ve read? (e.g. Unique in writing style, characters, plot… etc.)
7. Lemons: Name a book that made you feel sour. (e.g. The emotions were just sour, you just felt sour reading the book, or the book includes sour characters… etc.)
8. Tomato: What is a wonderful book that you think should be more widely known? Or a fantastic author whom you think deserves more recognition? (Since some may not know that tomatoes are actually fruits!)
9. Apple: Name a really stereotypical book of a certain genre just like apples which are typical fruits. In the end was that book good or not? (e.g. A very typical contemporary/fantasy book… etc.)
10. Blueberries: Name a book that made you feel blue. (Any sad, depressing books that you’ve read?)
11. Grapefruit: Any bitter books? (e.g. a book that was blue but MORE… do you have any bitter resentments towards characters from a book? Any sour turned bitter emotions? Any uber hateful villains?)
12. Jackfruit: Name the most physically heavy book that you’ve ever read. (Because jackfruits are pretty heavy fruits!)
13. Limes: Name a funny book that you’ve read because limes add flavour and so does humour with every book.

Part B: Favourite Fruit

Choose your favourite fruit and then choose a book that would correspond the best and if your fruit is already taken on our list, make up your own question and answer it.

Part C: Fruit Smoothies

Finally, choose a book that was a mix of some of these fruits to make your own smoothie. (e.g. A strawberry blueberry lemon smoothie would correlate to a sweet and sad but sour book.)

Our Answers

Part A

1. Faith: Eleanor & Park (by Rainbow Rowell) is a super dorky sweet book. It’s almost like sugar; you just can’t get enough of it. (Click here for my book review!)

   

2. Sarah: The Summer of Chasing Mermaids. A beach read set on the Beach, and a quick read as well. And books with diverse characters got me like YAASSS.

  

1. F:  Now we all judge book covers a bit right? The covers usually and supposedly give us the feel to the content of a book but not necessarily all the time. When I read Dust City (by Robert Paul Weston), it wasn’t the “cool” cover. Rather it was this one. At the time I was iffy about it but the summary intrigued and then I really grew to enjoy the book as well as the cover.

1. S: Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. They have everything, especially PJO. Humour, romance, oodles of action, magical happenings, and inspiration.

2. F: Go Set a Watchman (by Harper Lee) was a cool book to read especially after finishing To Kill a Mockingbird this past year but I was just really missing Atticus’ wise sayings.

3. S: Cinder was unique to me because that was the coolest Cinderella retelling ever. The idea was so boss and unique. (I’m pretty sure now cyborgs/mechanics are a trend.)

  

1. F: Shatter Me (by Tahereh Mafi) was unfortunately a sour book for me. The reason why is because I went into it knowing that a lot of people were loving the books and that it’s becoming a TV show which I thought was really great but when I read it, I have to say that I was disappointed. I guess my expectations can sometimes get the best of me and I didn’t really like the main characters. So I just felt kinda sour.

2. S: ANYTHING by Gordon Korman. Especially his old works (he’s been published since he was 12!) He needs to bring them back. His books have me in stitches without fail…

  

9. F: Switched (by Amanda Hawking) I think is a pretty typical fae fantasy type book. Maybe it’s mainly stereotypical for me because I’ve read several books similar to this so in the end, I found that it was not the most stellar fae fantasy ever but it was alright.

  

10. S: Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson or Cut by Patricia McCormick. I teared up, and trust me, that doesn’t happen often.

11. F: Dorothy Must Die (by Danielle Paige) is such a great book because it kept me in suspenseful intrigue all the way through the land of Oz. Except Dorothy, the heroine of the Wizard of Oz is now not as sweet as she used to be. And oh, how she quickly turned my emotions from sour to bitter.

   

12. S: Brisingr/Eldest by Christopher Paolini… those books are BRICKS. 12 year old me made the mistake of bringing them all home at once… they ripped my bag. 😦

  

13. F: The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan is a good example. I loved the way Carter and Sadie commented on each other’s chapters and the way they narrate because they’re just hilarious even in the face of evil. (See any similar patterns in our blog? 😛 Besides the evil part.) But really, anything written by Rick Riordan has the most hilarious humour.

Part B

Our favourite fruit: Mangoes

Q: What is a book series that we both love just as much as a duo?

A: The Lunar Chronicles and Percy Jackson & the Olympians (F: As you all already know… there’s a hardcore theme trending already S: Yup… I’m pretty sure the only consistent thing on this blog is our love of those two series. F: More consistent than our posting dates… sorry we try our best though! :P)

Part C

Smoothie: Mango tango citrus berry twist smoothie – Orange, grapefruit, mango, and maybe blueberry.
