Sunshine Blogger Award & A Pancake vs Waffle Showdown

Yay, my first banner! (And I took the photo :3) Any thoughts? ~Faith

Hey there fellow bloggers, how’s it going?  ‘Tis I, Faith, and I have been nominated by Margot from Lectito for the Sunshine Blogger Award! Thank you very much! 🙂 Today, it’s not only an award post, but there’s also a bit of a WAFFLES VS PANCAKES SHOWDOWN. Oh yes, it’s happening. * grins maliciously *

Rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Answer the 11 questions you were asked
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers
  • Ask the nominees 11 questions

What do you love most about reading?

I love staring at tattooed pieces of dead trees and inhaling the fresh scent of their corpses. Of course, hallucinating from them is the best. (S: … Faith… O.O )

Real talk: I love that I can just immerse myself into another universe, time, and place. It helps me to forget the hecticness of real-life… and it’s just fun!

I told my mom that, and she just said that maybe that’s the reason why my head is always in the clouds and why I may expect something out of real life that doesn’t exist. That sounds so depressing. Alright, we all know that everyone’s initial high school impression was terrible thanks to High School Musical but I LIKE READING. The end. End of story. I mean, I will continue reading stories. But it’s the end of this story. I have to admit, I am a daydreamer though – and I talk to myself. I can literally talk forever about nothing.

Why did you start book blogging?

Why? WELL. Wait, um. Should I just not even be here? Why AM I here? What is my existence? Maybe I should leave…

Short answer: I wanted to improve my writing skills and squeal about books to other people. (Faith realizes that she still needs much improvement and sighs sadly).

Shorter answer: It’s kinda my weirdness outlet… & it’s kinda fun.

What’s your favourite thing to do besides read?

Oh, there’s a bunch! Like going outdoors, doing photography, and doing random crafty stuff. I journal random things and blog about things that are as equally random. There’s also other ones like biking and pottery but I only get to do those once in awhile. Also, sometimes being a camp leader because kids just get an aspect of me that NORMAL TEENAGERS DON’T. Some may argue that it’s because I’M abnormal but on that one, I plead the fifth. Plus, kids have a different perspective on the world than adults do so it’s kind of cool to see! Like I probably mentioned in an earlier post, I’m basically a 12 year old. (S: I can vouch for that.)

Actually, I’m always very conflicted about whether I should go outside or stay indoors because as the wonderful Sarah Kay wrote in her poem, The Paradox, life is sometimes really, well, paradox-y:

“When I am inside writing,

all I can think about is how I should be outside living.

When I am outside living,

all I can do is notice all there is to write about.”

Personally, this is SO TRUE since I love being indoors cuddling with my books but I also really like being outdoors. Including my ability to be infinitely indecisive, it’s a difficult situation. It’s as if I’m stuck between the struggle of wanting to explore a new place and new things and wanting to stay within the comforts of the pages in a book. But usually, my laziness wins.

Where are you from and what’s something most people don’t know about your hometown/city?

Well everyone knows that we’re from Canada and what people don’t know aboot about it, is that we do not live in igloos, nor do we say “aboot”. Maybe when I’m struggling to put ON a boot to trudge through some snow. Although, maple syrup is very delicious, I have to admit. I just had it on my waffles this morning. 😀

Side note: waffles or pancakes? Personally, it’s WAFFLES FOR THE WIN! I love how the crunchy squares just absorb the maple syrup and it’s just so yummy, I’m salivating right now. :3

(S: DIE FAITH PANCAKES for the win. Your crunchy squares are softened by that syrup, but all of that soft spongy pancake absorbs it!

F: Don’t you DARE accuse my waffles. The WORD waffle even SOUNDS better! Pancakes are flat and literal. It’s a not-as-good version of a cake cooked in a pan. At the end, they just become a sopping mess of wet dough. Plus, the squares offer a structure and some kind of geometry to look at. A pancake is just a free formed BLOB. I mean, alright, you eat your puddle of dough while I enjoy my tasty artistic work of perfection. This has become a heated debate. More heated than the delicious crispy bits on the waffle edges. A lot of our “arguments” are very heated. ALL POSITIVE VIBES HERE THOUGH!)

Who’s your favourite local author and why?

To be really honest, I don’t have one. I don’t actually know of that many local authors… I should really look more into it soon! I guess it would have to be Eve Silver though? (S: Internally screaming because I started a feature to showcase Canadian authors XD F: Internally screaming because many of those are about stressful family lives when all I want to do is read to relax. Not read to get seizures in the middle of the night.)

If you had to get a book quote tattoo, which quote would you pick?

This is one of my favourite Lightning Thief quotes:

“What if it lines up like it did in the Trojan War … Athena versus Poseidon?”
“I don’t know. But I just know that I’ll be fighting next to you.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re my friend, Seaweed Brain. Any more stupid questions?”

This one too:

“Why can’t you place a blessing like that on us?” I asked.

“It only works on wild animals.”

“So it would only affect Percy,” Annabeth reasoned.

“Hey!” I protested.”

(Faith’s note to self: use this quote as future reference against Sarah attacks.)

I CAN’T HELP IT! THEY’RE HILARIOUS! XD But I can’t get these as a tattoo… So then there are quotes like these:

“She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.” ~ Eleanor and Park

I don’t know what I’d get as a tattoo. I wouldn’t want something too sentimental… probably something short that’s kind of funny but means something.

(Sarah here: only Faith would consider getting a paragraph tattooed on herself. Or a legit PJO sassy exchange. Once again, only at Sublime Reads, folks.)

What three books should everyone add to their reading pile?

  1. A Darker Shade of Magic
  2. The Encyclopedia of Early Earth
  3. Everything That Makes You

Just do. Don’t ask why.

What’s your favourite ‘classic’ and why?

To Kill a Mockingbird, hands down. Atticus should lend me his wise quotes for a day! There’s also Secret Garden because it was the first classic that I actually got into. It’s intriguing in its own mysterious way.

Name a book that left you sleepless.

Diamond Boy and A Thousand Splendid Suns. They left me STRESSED. I just didn’t sleep. I left with bags under my eyes twice as large as usual. You can’t see them clearly from afar but they were (and still are) so existent that they could’ve probably held all of Santa’s toys on Christmas Eve. (But tonight it’s pretty bad too, I’m up at 2:40am… RIP tomorrow morning and the rest of my week. -_-)

What’s the seventh sentence on the current page of your current read?

“‘Now really isn’t a good time.’” (…To be asking me that question. But that was seriously and literally the seventh sentence.)

Show us a picture of your favourite book cover.

A thousand pieces of you

When I searched Google for the book cover, I literally had so many options I just didn’t know which one to choose. And this was only a fifth of it. Click the image to check out just how many book covers there are. (Let’s play a game to see how long you have to keep scrolling to get through all the rows of covers).

There were too many choices… so in the end, I just went with this one. It was so difficult I kind of just closed my eyes and chose one. I hope you don’t mind, I know that some of you would’ve loved it if I chose the 39th one. Sorry to disappoint.

THIS COVER GIVES ME LIFE. The shade of purple for the actual hardcover is almost equally as good as the dust jacket. It’s basically the book cover that I would want for my own book. The actual story on the other hand… ehhhh. This is because book covers are literally only surface deep. Sorry.

My Questions

So, I’m allowed to make up my own questions. Do you know what this means? If not, you’ll find out quite soon!

  1. Congratulations! Thanks to Voldemort, you now somehow permanently look exactly like him. You’re forced into writing him a Thank You card. What does it say?
  2. What does the air currently smell like where you are? Describe it while fitting in the word “hairy” somewhere along the way.
  3. What are 3 things that make you laugh?
  4. If you were a son/daughter of ___________ at Camp Half Blood, what kind of pranks would you pull? Fill in the blank then answer the question. (If you’re somehow living under the Earth’s tectonic plates and you’re unfamiliar with Camp Half Blood, tell us your thoughts about the Percy Jackson books even if you haven’t read them.)
  5. Type as much as you can about one of these topics: your life/your first impression of blobfish/the first thing that comes into your mind in 6 seconds. Keep in the grammar & spelling mistakes and show us what you’ve got! (Get someone to count for you or find something that can count in seconds.)

A blobfish is this very attractive looking animal.

  6. Share your favourite joke. (F: What’s that? You’re telling me that my life is a joke??Thanks, I am somewhat offended but not really because then I’d argue that we think alike.)
  7. What’s the first thing that comes into your mind right now? It can be anything! Here, I’ll give you 3 seconds… great! Whatever you thought of is now related to how your favourite villain or most despised character had died – write about it.
  8. Try to fit in as many stereotypes about your own country as you can while talking about books.
  9. Tell me, what did Shakespeare shake? Bonus: If you can, quote something from Shakespeare from the top of your head.
  10. Are you left-handed or right-handed or ambidextrous or another breed of human? (An extraterrestrial, perhaps? 😉 )
  11. Would you rather get free chocolate every time you get a paper cut or automatically get a free full-proof pass in making someone’s day whenever you read a not-so-great book?

An award for some awesome blogs and some awesomer people (seriously, you gotta go check ’em out!):

Analee at Book Snacks

Cherry at Read Forevermore

Noemi at Down the Rocky Road

Cait at Paper Fury

Kiwi Reads

Emily at Embuhleeliest

Yarravy at Hiraethforthepages

Becca at Becca and Books

Syc at The Lit Mermaid

Lashaan & Trang at Bookidote

(I mean, they’re  different set of questions? 😀 )

Paul at The Galaxial Word

I actually nominated 11 people this time!! (Whooooooooo)

If you feel sad because you don’t see yourself already tagged, just tell me if you want to do this and I’ll add you right onto this list! If you’re one of the “usuals” that we tag/you already have A TONNN on your shoulders, then please don’t feel obliged to answer these questions because SOMETIMES IT’S PRESSURING. And I get it. STRESS AND LAZINESS: I admire your ever-unrelenting persistence. (Maybe if I worked as hard as these guys, I’d actually BE SOMEWHERE. But then again, this is a super ironic statement.) So whatever it is you’re doing, here’s a smile, a hug, and some freshly baked internet cookies! Or better yet, ICE CREAM COOKIE SANDWICHES.

~ Faith

Here’s a dumb “joke” – Q: What did the farmer who lost his tractor say? A: “Where is my tractor?” AHAHAHAHAHA… * laughter trails off somewhat dejectedly *

WAIT you guys DON’T live in igloos? I HAVE BEEN LIED TO.

GUYS you’re making me feel all tingly, another award? blushes I know, I haven’t caught up on any hides in shame BUT I WILL and I’m so excited! Ahhhh, your questions are always so on point… I.. can’t.. hold it… in.. explodes in colourful confetti of excitement and random bafoon 🙂

Ahhh, my reaction was the same as Sarah’s at that first question. Tattooed dead trees… Faith you continue to blow my mind. I think you will be glad to know that those three books have been added (or already were) to my TBR. I HAVE FAITH IN YOU (I’m going to pretend I was really original with that).

I was slowly scrolling through the questions at the end and my heart just jumped and stuttered and died at that photo because HOLY MAC AND CHEESE THAT THING WHAT IS IT (why how very attractive).

Thank you again you very lovely people. Always making my day ❤

My initial reaction to someone asking me if I live in an igloo is: “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!” And then I go, “Also, we don’t live on a sheet of ice called the tundra and have regular meet ups with polar bears, beavers, or moose. At least not in the city. WE LIVE IN HOUSES AND THERE’S CEMENT AND SIDEWALKS AND A DOWNTOWN AND A HARBOURFRONT.” Hahaha but I’m pretty sure you’re sarcastic (unless you’re not, then that would be kinda awkwardly hilarious) so yes, someone has been spreading some lies around here. 😉

I knowww, I almost feel bad for tagging again because it’s like adding pressure! At the same time, I can’t wait for your responses sooo whatever you’re doing, YOU CAN DO IT! (Then just, you know, hop on over to some award answering. :P)

Haha, I think it’s my explosives that I always carry with me… just to blow people’s minds. (Okay, that sounds worst than I thought but we’re going to go with it.) NOOO NOT THE “I HAVE FAITH IN YOU FAITH” “joke”… Okay, every time someone learns about my name, they say that exact thing. Once I forgot my homework and the teacher said it to me and I was like -_- but at the same time I was like YES I’M SAVED BY MY OWN NAME! XD But every time someones says that I’m like, “They always think they’re the most original person on Earth…” Don’t feel sorry or hurt or anything though because I’m not actually annoyed or mad. It’s just SO JELLYBEANING HILARIOUS.

AHAHA “that thing” was voted the world’s most ugliest animal. You eventually start feeling bad for it. 😛 Also, it lives off the coast of Australia soooo… someone better watch out!!

You’re welcome, we’re always super glad that we can make your day!! ❤ (SORRY FOR THE ESSAY I’M FEELING SO GUILTY RN THIS IS TOP NOTCH LONG COMMENTING)

AHAHAHAHA I have to say I’m disappointed! Here I thought I could come over to Canada and make a friend with a polar bear (I’ve heard they give wonderful hugs). I guess some things just aren’t to be (though if you ever make any bear friends then you know who to call).

Don’t feel bad! I LOVE getting tagged 🙂 I just feel bad because I haven’t been posting my tags lately BUT I LOVE IT. I’m so excited to be replying to these, IT WILL COME (I have a review to be posted tonight BUT the NEXT POST I’m telling you 😉 )

Ahhh THE JOKE. I didn’t even think about that joke until just then because I’m slow at making puns BUT better late then never (or maybe never was better XD ). However look at the perks! The infinite supply of get-away slips at your fingertips (SO NOW I SEE HOW YOU GET ALL THE BADASSERY DONE) – oh isn’t it just SUBLIME (no? okay yeah, let’s leave the puns to you professionals)

OMG THE COAST OF AUSTRALIA?! If I was swimming at the beach and stepped on that CREATURE I think I would die of a heart attack. ERGH I can imagine the slime – but now I FEEL BAD because the poor creature. I mean, it gets cuter the longer you look at it 🙂 (BUT no, I WILL NOT TOUCH IT)

Do NOT apologise for your ESSAYS they are the best damn essays I have EVER READ AND I LOVE THEM (I bet you charm all your english teachers don’t you 😉 )

SORRY HAVEN’T RESPONDED IN 2 DAYS!!! D: My sleeping schedule is SO messed up. Also, THANK YOU for your gloriously long comments, it makes me self-assured that I’m not the only insane one in this universe.

I mean, I guess they DO give great hugs – if you’re trying to attack it. XD
YAY I am looking forward to reading the answers!!!

OH MY LIFE. JUST TODAY SOMEONE AT SCHOOL MADE THE SAME JOKE. Basically, we were completing a lab in a group and we had to share our answers on the board up front. So my group made me do it and because I’m “vertically challenged”, someone was sarcastically like to my group member “Way to go, make the shortest kid in our class write the answer.” And then someone else was like, “Faith I have Faith in you!!!” And I was like, STOP IT. But not angrily. I was joking but I felt bad because he might have thought I was serious. :/ Then I felt SO BAD. It’s my guilty conscience. And, I mean we’re not THAT professional. We’re just PROFESSIONALLY AWKWARD. I am literally so socially awkward when I’m talking to people in my school (because they think I’m just soooooo weird) that it’s almost depressing.

YEP, you better watch out! But actually you won’t have to worry because they live in reallllllly super deep waters so unless you go deep sea scuba diving, you won’t likely encounter one. 😛 It IS kind of cute, isn’t it?? (Here I’ll let you in on a secret: I may be making a Cuteness Overload for this one but I’m pretty sure there will be mixed feelings. There will be better pictures. But I’m sure some people will think it’s the most disgusting thing they’ve ever laid eyes upon.)

THANK YOU FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME!!! I love your comments too! Makes me happy. 🙂 Here’s another essay for your reading pleasure ahaha.

WHOOOOO, after two days of thinking you were gone forever, you have come back with another GLORIOUS comment 🙂

Has anyone ever told you that you’re AMAZING at telling stories? Man, I was laughing so hard and now I can’t stop smiling at your story XD From the ‘vertically challenged’ to your STOP IT, I AM IN HYSTERICS. And don’t worry, you’re not the only awkward one here. Its either people walking into a classroom and encountering my ‘milk the cow’ dance (which is as horrifying as it sounds) or getting stuck with talking to me about topics that probably make them second-guess my sane mind.

Now I don’t know whether to be sad or happy that I won’t come across one of those creatures (I SUPPORT this post even if it will leave me both awing and crying). YOU’RE WELCOME AND THANK YOU BACK! XD You comments make me equally happy 🙂

OMG YOUR BLOG IS WONDERFUL AND HILARIOUS. XD I’m cracking up here! You’re perfect! Ahem. So thank you for the tag, also!! KIND BEAN YOU.

And waffles. It’s definitely waffles. Because you can contain your jam/spread/syrup/whatever in each individual square and nothing gets mixed up and it’s NICE. Whereas everything just runs away on pancakes. Disagreeable flat blobs. shakes head sadly Although both ARE delicious, I won’t deny that.

ALSO I LOVE TKAM. I might’ve named my dog Atticus. ;D

Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

THANK YOU!! 😉 Haha, I hope you found my questions somewhat interesting? So you’re welcome, because I am super excited to see your response! Also, I’d be glad to stop by your blog any day! (Of course since I’ve re-discovered it! Sometimes things get crazy and I’m not on top of reading all the blogs I follow and I miss posts. But NOW I’m going to try harder to keep up more.)

EXACTLY – That’s what I’ve been saying the entire time to Sarah. Your condiment just slides right off of a pancake… it’s probably the reason why waffles are created. They both do taste delicious but personally, there’s nothing like the crunch of a waffle. 😛

I LOVE TKAM TOO! I was just disappointed (like most, probably) by the sequel… did you happen to have read it?

YUPPP, are you ecstatically excited or what? 😀 Although, I might have wrote this entire thing just to see what people think about blobfish. ISN’T IT AWESOMELY WEIRD? (But we’re totally bombarding you with tags. I mean, how are you even supposed to finish all of them before the universe ends?!)

BUT BUT BUT. BUT. BUT. BUT. Doesn’t the word WAFFLE just sound so much epic-er??? PANcake just sounds so intentionally flat. (Pun also somewhat intended.)

(I know right. There’s something just shudderingly cool about them.)

I AM SORRYYYYYYYYYYY. BUT I COULDN’T WRITE THESE QUESTIONS AND NOT TAG YOU. That’s like asking me to go to a restaurant and NOT bring a book!! 😛 (Cuz you’re just that awesome with your awesomer responses. Thank me later. HEY look at me tryna guilt trip you!) Some point in time, I was like, “Yeahh, we should probably stop tagging him for random stuff… I mean, he probably has to do something disgusting like homework or cleaning his room.” Which is WHY you’re at the end of the list. XD Cuz I was contemplating the entire time whether I should put you under such pressurizing tortures or leave you be to stay peaceful and happy. I opted with the former. And look where it got me. A rambling blobfish. Whoops?

Eventually. Uh huh. Yup. But that’s good enough for me haha. (Just make sure you make up some good questions for us to answer and we’ll survive.)

I don’t do many tags but rest assured that if I do do so, I will definitely tag you first and foremost ;D Just keep tagging me. I’ll get around to it soon. Plus, it’s good for when I run out of post ideas and I can just go: “Oh wait, I can do the tag that Faith and Sarah tagged me for!” and the day is saved. You’ve basically saved the day.
